Working Together
This weekend, my partner, Isaac and I wrote our Pocohontas paper. When we first were told that we were to write a 1000 word paper with another person in the class, I was extremely apprehensive. I wasn't sure how in the world writing a paper with another person would be productive or even work. However, I was greatly surprised at the ease with which Isaac and I were able to pull together one cohesive piece of writing. In fact, with two minds working we were less apt to be distracted and finished the paper much more quickly than I have finished shorter papers by myself. Editing with two brains thinking about possible corrections went much more smoothly and we caught twice as many errors and confusing points. While in some aspects, I found it more difficult to write one paper with two people, such as in the phrasing of sentences, overall I feel that having a partner to work with actually increased my productivity. The saying, "two heads are better than one" actually proved to be true for me today! It makes me wonder whether I should consider studying or working more in groups in general, for AmCon and other subjects. Even as a means of peer editing, the process was very helpful. I have always avoided willingly working in groups, as I have felt that I work better by myself. Working with others has often left me doing most of the work or becoming frustrated. However, I can see now the benefit of having someone else to keep you on track and verify that your work is of good quality. I received a new perspective today, which will hopefully carry into my work in the future.
