Connect it.

In my English class this semester, "The Narrative of Social Protest,"  we are currently reading Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man.  In reading the book, we have also read articles from many of the leading African-American writers of the time.   I couldn't help but think of AmCon semester 1 as Frederick Douglass was referenced in the book as being an African American celebrated by the organization the protagonist joins, modeled after the Communist Party.  I just found it interesting the different ways in which the black community took writings such as The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and used them for their own political motives as time went on, which didn't necessarily coincide with the original hopes of the author.
